Wiccans do not fear death, of course we are sorry to see a loved one die and we will miss them terribly, but we know that we will see them again as with The Great Wheel it is said ‘what has been will be again’. Death is a transition. Everything in the universe is and always will be. Nothing new is ever made and nothing dies, energy just transforms into other matter and forms. Albert Einstein said “Energy cannot be created nor can it be destroyed, it can only be changed from one form to another”.
Everything has a cycle, something is made or born, it changes form then dies and then transforms to another energy. A plant starts from seed and then grows, it then blossoms then seeds itself and eventually dies and is turned into compost to feed the next generation of plants.
A rock is made from magma from the centre of the earth, it then cools down to rock and with time, waves and weather is then crushed down to dust or sand.
The universe in it’s ever expanding state turns dense dark matter and gasses into a star which becomes bright and burns for millions of years but eventually explodes in a supernova without which there would be no oxygen or carbon or any of the life giving gasses or elements that we need for life.
Humans are made from seed and are born, grow and change, then eventually die and our energy transforms to become once again part of the universe.
Ultimately the universe is expanding and has been since the big bang and it will eventually implode in on itself and then there will be another big bang and the whole process will start all over again. This has and always will keep happening forever. Ad infinitum
We are like a drop of rain falling into the Ocean only to be eventually taken back up into the clouds to be a drop of rain again falling back into the ocean. It is part of The Great Wheel, everything goes around in a cycle. The cycle of the seasons of the year, the monthly cycle of the Moon, the cycle of the planets around the Sun, the cycle of birth, life and death.
Many Wiccans believe in a place called the Summerlands. It is a place we go when we die, it is like a waiting room for your spirit to contemplate on your life and a place you can watch over Earth and loved ones. It is a place where we wait to be transformed into other energies in the universe. In Wicca there isn’t a wall between life and death it is more of a vial, where we can still contact the spirit of people who have moved into the Summerlands. This vial becomes at it’s thinnest between the hours of 12 midnight and 3am which has become known as ‘The Witching Hour’ and it becomes even thinner at Beltane and Samhain.
